What is it?

Water spouts are water tornadoes connected to a cloud. The water spout actually sucks up water to form this funnel shape.

How can you tell if there is going to be a water spout?

Usually a dark spot on the surface of the water calls for a water spout. Also, spiral formation in the water or formation of spray rings can cause water spouts.
